Empowering Off-Grid Villages with Solar Lights

Let There be Light

No electricity in her village has been a reality for Inggai Sungging, a 56-year-old semi-literate grandmother, who recalled the difficulties of studying during her younger days that led to her dropping out of school at primary 5 because it was difficult to study after sundown. Not wanting the next generation to face the same reality as she did, the grandmother of twelve from Kampung Paus, Ranau enrolled in Solar Barefoot College where she spent 5 months in India to become a solar engineer and bring electricity to her village, made possible by FHI Malaysia and SWEPA (Sabah Women Entrepreneur and Professionals Association).

Make a Difference in the Community

Food for the Hungry International Sabah Malaysia help the less-fortunate by linking our outreach area school leavers in poverty with TVET scholarship programs. We had facilitated the enrollment of 5 youth from Kota Marudu in a professional welding academy at West Malaysia with two of them a success story plying their trade and becoming role models in their communities. We will continue this linkage service as and when needed on a case by case basis nearer to originating villages at TVET centres preferably located within Sabah.
