Who We Are and What We Do

The Food for the Hungry International (FHI) is an international organization founded in 1971 by Dr. Larry Ward with the vision to provide special focus on the world’s physically and spiritually hungry.  In Sabah, Malaysia, our objectives as an affiliated entity are:

  • To provide food and other goods and services of immediate necessity;

  • To help the needy become self-supporting;

  • To provide medical services;

  • To train volunteers in relief work;

  • To carry out research and development on fundamental solutions for hunger;

  • To operate such home for purpose of carrying out the objectives;

  • To carry out any other relief activities;

  • To develop network with other similar organisations, without regard to creed, social, status, race and gender.

FHI Malaysia was registered under the Societies Act (1966) with a tax exempt status and launched in 2006 by YB Datuk Dr.Yee Moh Chai, Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology.

Strategic Direction

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"

Our vision and objectives remain the same with emphasis on agent, impact and dialogue (AID) concepts

1. Agent

The concept that FHIM is more of an adviser, consultant, catalyst, facilitator, co-ordinator and sponsor to uplift the livelihood of the community in a sustainable way; rather than a direct major dependency partner in the development process. In other words, an agent of change (AOC) for the community

2. Impact
The concept of creating maximum impact with minimum input (MIMI) in project development; as resources are invariably limited in relation to needs and requests; especially in this volatile environment.

3. Dialogues
The concept of having dialogues with the community to assess what they really want and be respectful of their opinions and wishes; rather than we are an expert in all and tell them what they should or should not do.

“Be an agent of change for the betterment of our society”
